Lakeland Golf Courses - Polk County Top 3
Are you looking for a public golf course in the Greater Lakeland area?, And you love those fairly flat fairways, the water features, abundance of wildlife and a good bargain? You're in the right place!
Today we're going to take a look at a few of the top courses in area and why they made that list. So let's get started..
The Greater Lakeland and Polk counties are dotted with bedroom communities
mainly because of our ideal location; we're right between Tampa and Orlando. And there's certainly no shortage of public play options here including
municipal courses and high end layouts.
According to the leaf group, the three most popular courses in the area are :
Cleveland Heights Golf Course.
The Club at EagleBrooke and
Lone Palm Golf and Country Club.
With over 40 courses to choose from I looked into why these particular three
made the list... Our first stop is Cleveland Heights Golf Course. This happens being my personal favorite and it does have a bit of interesting history behind it too. I always wondered.. How did Cleveland Heights get its name? we're in Lakeland ?? .. Well, the short of the story goes that the Cleveland Heights Golf Course and the surrounding areas also named Cleveland Heights were built by a businessman from Cleveland who
often visited Lakeland when the Cleveland Indians were here during spring training.
An 18-hole course designed by William s Flynn and Howard C Tommey opened in 1925. And by the end of the decade the city had taken over management of the course. In the
1980s a third nine was added. All the courses have a very distinct old Florida feel with wide, flat fairways, giant oaks and with water on 16 of the 27 holes. All three courses the Azalea, Bougainville, and Camellia has three sets of tees and played between thirty one hundred and thirty two hundred ninety nine yards from championship tees.
And while you're there you have got to check out the new 1916 Irish pub! This place is not your average fish and chips joint..if you appreciate gourmet Irish cuisine you're in for a treat....What a perfect ending to a day on the course.
Our next stop is the Club at Eaglebrooke.
Eaglebrooke Golf & Country Club is the crowning venue of this huge community that has 11 separate communities all within Eaglebrooke. Homes range in the mid to hundreds to the 800 thousands. The club in Eaglebrooke is a treasured gem among golfers in
our area. From the lush rolling fairways to the meticulously manicured greens you
know you found a treasure as soon as you approach the first tee. Undulating fairways meander along bunkers and scenic lakes to multilevel greens, giving this championship golf course a challenging yet forgiving appeal. One of the cool features about this course is they welcome and try to accommodate golfers with disabilities. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they all have to disclose that. The club at EagleBrooke is
a gorgeous venue.! They even book weddings. I know this because my daughter had her wedding there and it was beautiful!
Rounding out our list of top three is the famous Lone Palm Golf & Country Club.
This Lakeland icon was established in 1964 by Publix founder George Jenkins.
Lone Palm is sprawled out over nearly 400 acres of scenic Florida landscape.
The community of over 70 homes was built between 1966 and 1988 range from $150,000 up to $700,000.
The 18 hole course provides both challenge and enjoyment for professionals and novices alike. Designed in 1965 by legendary golf course architect Dick Wilson. Lone Palm has played host to many professional amateur and charity golf tournaments
throughout the years.
